Let's face it...Who are we kidding when it comes to web hosting companies. Most of them are all alike.
With the exception of technical support and how friendly and proactive
their tech support personnel are, everything else is just about the
same. And I'm talking about the price, the features, the hosting
plans and even the servers. You can go to most any hosting provider
these days and find a hosting plan of your choosing based on price,
features and server platform. Then you can go to a different
hosting provider and obtain just about the same thing for very little
effort. The thing that is truly different, in my mind, is the
level of support that each hosting provider is willing to expend.
Most of the hosting providers have gotten a lot better in terms of
real-time 24x7 technical support. But even then, a lot of those
technical support personnel are not knowledgeable enough to support your
needs. When I first got started with doing my own website, I was
very green. That is, I didn't know the first thing about anything
related to web hosting. I had someone set up a website for me on
one of these hosting companies. I just assumed that once the website is
setup, that is all I needed to do. However, once I got started in
trying to modify the website and adding content to it, I began to
realize that I needed expert help. One of the problems that I saw
early on was the lack of modularity on my website. I had the same
links and content on the left hand side and right hand side of my page
on just about every page on my website. But once I needed to
modify one of these links or side contents, I had to make the
modifications to all of my pages. This can be a very
time-consuming task, considering that I had over 300 pages when I first
started out. When I called tech support to ask them how I can make
the website modular, the tech support guy didn't have a clue as to what
I was talking about.
